Writing Workshop July 7, 2010

Hello all! This is the first post for the Writing Workshop NYC blog where in the future you can check for updates on workshops, past work, members, events, etc…

So to begin the next workshop:

Theme: FATE

When: Wednesday July 7th at 7pm

Where: Audrey’s back garden (email for instructions)

Description:

We’re at the mercy of it.  Or we’re not.  Or maybe we are but we’re in denial.  Or maybe we aren’t but we’re just so deluded that we think we are.  Or maybe those three old ladies cackling and knitting and sipping chartreuse (yuck!) around the domino table at the end of the block are really snipping life threads and tying matrimonial knots and just generally getting in the way of us living life the way we truly want to.  Either way DESTINY is the topic of discussion next Wednesday, July 7th at 7:00pm.

Bring in any essays, visual pieces, songs, epic poems, horoscopes, scratch off cards, family trees, newclippings about lighting strikes, bios, autobios, obits, wedding invis, whatever strikes you as dealing with the topic of fate.  And don’t forget – there is a dark side to it as well.  Think curses, hexes, the evil eye, and of course that masterpiece of modern teen horror, the Final Destination series of utter shit.

Starting this session we’re going to switch up the structure slightly and after going over our long-term projects, etc, we’ll move into the exercises quickly.  Expect people to have pens out and paper marked up by 7:30pm.  This will give us more time to discuss what we’ve produced and then to really get involved in our discussions.  If you have an exercise idea, email myself and Jessamyn and we’ll work it into the schedule.

See you then!
